Pasta Pomodoro: Remodel (Restaraunt Photography) in San Francisco

Pasta Pomodoro is under new ownership and is completely remodeling the look of their restaurants – starting with the flagship store on California Ave. in San Francisco. There was a brief window of time between when the restaurant was being polished with the new look and when they needed to reopen for business. Luckily I was able to swoop in, kick everyone out, and have my way with the interiors for as long as I needed. Here’s a few from that restaurant photography session.

Fairmont Hotel Decorated Ballrooms (Commercial Interior Photography)

The newly redecorated ballrooms at The Fairmont Hotel San Jose are ideal venues for enormous (and more intimate) corporate events and weddings. The Imperial Ballroom is simply gigantic (13,000 square feet / 1,150 – 1,400 guests), and this evening it was actually split into two separate rooms (the red and blue pictures). Even split up, each room is still able to accommodate hundreds of partygoers. The pink photo is the Regency Ballroom (8,300 square feet / 642 – 980 guests) down on the first floor. The lighting, table decorations, flowers and more can truly transform each ballroom to the needs of each individual event. All three of these rooms were set up for parties this evening on March 12, 2011. It was definitely challenging lighting for pictures – especially the intense colors – but they came out pretty well. Paolo’s Restaurant – Rambus Party Setup (Commercial Interior Architecture Photography)

Carolyn and Jalil, owners of Paolo’s Restaurant in downtown San Jose, needed some professional photos showing how their banquet space could be decorated for an event. Bloomster’s had the centerpieces decked out in beautiful array, the lighting and other decorations were just really well executed. The event for the evening was an annual party for Rambus; the highlight of the decorations was the full-ice bar (yes the whole bar was made of ice!) – including an ice-luge sculpture for perfectly chilled cocktails. I couldn’t stay for the party as I had more event setup photos to take at The Fairmont Hotel, but here’s a few photos below. More pics at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

Scotts Valley Home (Real Estate Photography)

I don’t shoot a lot of real estate photography. Ok, well I shot this beach house recently. And of course this really, really sexy mansion in Portola Valley, but mostly it’s not something I’m asked to do much. Maybe I’m too expensive, I don’t know. But it’s fun, and waaaay easier than chasing toddlers around on a beach and getting them to look at me and smile. So in that respect, it’s refreshing to shoot a house once in a while.

Monique Pacurariu is the listing agent for this house, and she’s familiar enough with my work to know I’d make her look good, which means the house should attract more potential buyers. Maybe you here, reading this post, are looking for a home in Scotts Valley, California (only a stone’s throw from Santa Cruz!). If so, please contact Monique for serious inquiries.

San Francisco Shirt Company – Santana Row’s Newest Boutique Clothing Store (Retail Photography)

Franco Uomo’s got a brand new bag – or rather, clothing store – at Santana Row. It’s called San Francisco Shirt Company, and it’s hot. In fact, they’re having a fashion show on December 16, 2010 to celebrate the grand opening of the new store, and I have a few photographs to show you blog readers what this place is all about. Where Franco Uomo is all about menswear, SF Shirt Co. caters more to the better half if you know what I mean. The new store is located directly across from Hotel Valencia, and has light, clean architectural details on the interior and an atmosphere that’s much more inviting than stuffy. The vintage sewing machines tastefully mounted on the wall as well as the logo design give San Francisco Shirt Company an old world, aristocratic feel, but without the pretentious snobbery. Sunny Cove Beachhouse (Homes)

There’s no shortage of rental properties in Santa Cruz, and those with an ocean view are the most attractive to out-of-towners looking for the beach city experience. Of course all those potential customers are combing through photos on rental property websites, so if your photos are crap, you’re gonna get less business. The smart ones know to hire a professional for this kind of stuff, so I was happy to provide my services to this particular owner. This house, located in the Sunny Cove area of Santa Cruz, looks like a really fun place to stay – and one that can accommodate quite a few people which is great. San Jose City Hall (Architecture)

The city of San Jose hired me to get a professional photo of the new-ish city hall. It’s a beautiful structure, and I’m sure there’s thousands of photos floating around of it, so I was flattered to have been chosen for the assignment. Of course I have a *little* experience shooting architecture, so I was up for the job. And did I mention I had to take the photos within the hour? Well the deadline wasn’t that close, but it was most convenient for my schedule, so I zipped over the hill and was able to capture these shots below. As I was walking back to my car, the ominous clouds you can see on the far left had made it over the city and started to do their drippy thing. Good timing!

Here’s most of the photos, I didn’t take a ton since they only needed one, so I got a few from different angles and elevations. All are processed with my own High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing technique. Enjoy, and check out the rest over here.

Villa Lauriston (Aerial Photos)

Back in March, I shot ground-based interiors and exteriors for this client – it’s an amazing house set on 28 acres of property near Skyline Blvd. in Portola Valley. Of course the only way to get a shot of the whole property at once is from the air! I met with Cameron Rolfe, the owner of Bay Helicoptours, at 12pm sharp at the San Carlos Airport. While he was checking up on his flying roto-beast, I was getting my “basic” gear ready. Since the helicopter sports one bench seat for the two of us, and the fact that my side has a “missing” door, I had to K.I.S.S. with my stuff. I had my Nikon D300 paired with my 70-200/2.8 for the long-range closeups, the Nikon D3 with my trusty 28-70/2.8 and my Nikon D700 with my buddy’s ultra-wide 14-24/2.8 (which I ended up not really needing).

Because Villa Lauriston is way off the beaten path, my main concern was finding the place. Luckily we were flying low enough to get cell signal – so my trusty Apple iPad with Google maps led the way – which is a good thing because we initially overshot, so I was able to lead the “blue dot” back to the intended destination. Once successfully over the property, we circled around it at varying altitudes. We couldn’t slow down to less than about 40mph, probably because the winds coming over skyline would make us unstable, so it was more challenging than I expected to shoot. It was more like a series of fly-bys and pray-you-got-the-shot than carefully aligned compositions. The many tall trees prevented us from getting as low as I’d have liked, but I still think I got a great variety of photos of the beautiful property. Bonny Doon Residence (Real Estate)

My parents-in-law are selling their lovely property they’ve raised their kids in – it’s about 30 minutes out of Santa Cruz in the mountains, near a small town named Bonny Doon. It’s a large piece of land with expansive yard, beautiful garden, separate garage, storage, play area, and of course an amazing three story-ish house that I have many fond memories of. Their kids are in middle/high school now, so it makes more sense to live closer to town. I’m sad to say goodbye to the place (as I’m sure they are as well), but hopefully it will go to a family that will appreciate all it has to offer. I was honored they asked me to take all the photos of the property – this will help everyone remember it at its finest state. Here’s a select few, the rest are here.
